Pearl Mountain Coffee – A gem from southern India
In the Indian region of West Ghats, at an altitude of around 1,400 meters, an Arabica coffee grows that makes the hearts of coffee lovers beat faster. Velvety spicy with aromatic notes of chocolate and dried fruit, it is an enrichment for any assortment.
Craftsmanship with family tradition
The Patre family has been running the Ratnagiri Coffee Estate since 1927 and attaches great importance to first-class quality – with unmistakable success. The name Ratnagiri translates as Pearl Mountain.
Here, the coffee cherries thrive under silvery oak trees, whose shade slows down the growth of the coffee cherries. This gives the coffee beans time to develop their distinctive, complex aroma.
In keeping with the farm’s name, Ratnagiri Estate produces very high-quality pearl beans. Instead of the typical two beans, only one bean develops in each coffee cherry. Carefully sorted, these small, round coffee beans are not only beautiful to look at, but also full of aroma that makes every cup an experience.
Harvested, washed, sorted – the way to premium coffee
The ripe coffee cherries are harvested and washed with the utmost care and expertise. The freshly pulped beans are then spread out in the sun for a few days, allowing them to ferment gently. The parchment layer is then removed before the beans are sorted and classified.
This long, precise, and intensive work pays off. Not only do the green coffees from Ratnagiri Estate impress with their uniform bean appearance, they are also among the most aromatic coffees the market has to offer.
