Ethiopia – Top quality from the very cradle of coffee
Anyone who appreciates high-quality Arabica beans with an elegant character knows that one country in particular sets the absolute gold standard: Ethiopia. This landlocked country in the eastern Horn of Africa is considered the cradle of coffee, with deep-rooted traditions surrounding the bean.
Elevated cultivation, high standard
The best coffees in Ethiopia come mainly from the highlands. For example, from the regions of Yirgacheffe and Sidamo. The climatic conditions here are cool and constant, which allows the coffee cherries to ripen gradually. This gives the plant time to develop its complex aromas.
When roasted, the heirloom coffee beans from Yirgacheffe impress with a round and elegant aroma profile. Floral notes are accompanied by a gentle, restrained acidity and a fruity liveliness reminiscent of citrus fruits.
Sidamo, on the other hand, impresses with its full-bodied flavor and sweetness, evoking associations with berries and chocolate. Both are ideal for sophisticated roasts that will delight all lovers of specialty coffee.
High demand, rising value
All these qualities of Ethiopian highland coffee make it very popular – and rightly so. However, as these coffees are primarily characterized by being produced in small, sustainable quantities, supply cannot keep up with growing demand. We are excited to continue our journey with the premium coffees from Ethiopia!
